How to use
Left click to place notes. Right click to erase, or switch to the
Erase
tool and click. To listen, you can either middle click anywhere, click on the
Measure bar
, press space, or click
Play
. Click again to stop. You can drag notes around after placing them, or drag the right end to change the length (for most instruments, this will not affect the sound when played on the website).
Switch to the Select tool in order to select multiple notes. You can copy , cut and paste using the buttons or the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X or Ctrl+V. If you make a mistake, type Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Y to redo.
Using the
Grid
menu at the bottom of the page, you can place 1/8 or 1/16 notes. Select a
Key
to highlight all of the notes that belong to that key. Change the
BPM
(beats per minute) to make the sequence play faster or slower.
You can scroll using the scroll bars or mouse wheel (shift + mouse wheel to scroll horizontally). Ctrl + mouse wheel lets you zoom in and out.
Save/Load
Click to save your work on the website. If you made an account you’ll be able to update it later using the link, otherwise saving again will make a copy. Click “Save local file” in the dropdown menu to save a file to your computer containing a text representation of the sequence, you can drag and drop the file onto the Online Sequencer page to open it again. Click “Export MIDI” to save a MIDI format file that can be played or edited using other music software.
Instruments
Use the
instrument menu
to select a different instrument, this will affect new notes you place as well as any notes that are selected when you change it. Click
Highlight
to select all notes played with the current instrument. Open the
dropdown menu
for more options.
In this menu, you can change the volume of each instrument or enable Delay (D) or Reverb (R). Click Lock to prevent notes on one instrument from being changed while you are working on another.
Under the Advanced tab, you are able to solo an instrument and reset its properties/volume. You may also adjust the instrument's pan and EQ through this menu.
Right click the measure bar to add "markers" which allow you to change instrument settings over time during the sequence.
Notes that sound longer or shorter are possible using Flute, Electric Guitar or any of the 8 bit instruments.
Shortcuts
Navigation- Ctrl + mouse wheel: Zoom
- Shift + mouse wheel: Horizontal Scroll
- Alt + drag: Pans the sequencer around
- Shift + click note: Multiple select
- Shift + click and drag: Multiple select lasso (while using select tool)
- Ctrl + click note: Switch to instrument
- Ctrl + shift + click note: Lock/unlock instrument
- Alt + middle click: Loops the selected measure
- Tab: Switches between Draw/Select tool
- Ctrl + Arrow keys: Nudges selected notes
- Ctrl + Alt + V: Pastes notes to your cursor's location
- Ctrl + Alt + C: Cuts long notes according to the current grid value
- Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3, Alt+4, Alt+5: Change grid
- Alt + mouse wheel: Changes individual note volume (while note is selected)
- Alt + +/-: Changes individual note volume (while note is selected)
